Anne Ireland -
Throughout my life I have been inspired by the romantic, expansive and sometimes intimate spaces of my family’s saltwater farm. Located on a tidal estuary in midcoast Maine, it has been a summer residence and retreat for many years. Since childhood, I have wandered through the hay fields and bordering woods, climbed the rock ledges under the old oaks and pines and walked the shoreline at low tide looking for horseshoe crabs and mussels. Although I have known this area nearly all my life, it remains mysterious and always surprising to me. I want my paintings to capture the drama and the magic of a place using color. Familiarity with a particular landscape gives me a certain freedom to invent and that, in turn, has informed my painting process in other locations as well. I am always excited to discover the magic of new places throughout Maine and beyond.
