Elizabeth Kelley was born in Walpole Massachusetts in 1965 and has spent summers in Maine since her youth. Her plein air paintings are inspired by her experience and exploration among the islands and mud flats of Cape Porpoise. She opened her studio in near by Arundel in 2003.
Elizabeth obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art in 1989 and is currently a member of three life drawing groups in Southern Maine. She is also continuing her professional studies at Maine College of Art and private workshops in drawing and painting.
“I am very motivated by the play of light and color in the landscape,” she says, “and am drawn to the possibilities of low or dramatic light, particularly on either side of the day”. Her passion to reveal the delicate balance between the beautiful mystery and gritty reality of the Maine landscape is evident in her latest plein air work.
