Guy Corriero paints the rugged beauty of the Maine coast in oil and watercolor.
I suppose it all began as a lifeguard in Long Beach, L.I. where I spent my
formative years. As you will see most of Guy's paintings were done on the rocks of
Monhegan Island, Maine where he has painted every summer since 1970. It was on a visit
to the Grand Central Gallery in New York that he came upon a Fredrick Waugh seascape
painted on Monhegan Island that sparked his interest in the rocky and often dramatic coast
of Maine.
Painting both in watercolors and oils, Mr. Corriero feels that painting on the spot is essential
to artistic development and sensitivity to the subject. There's something that gets into the
painting that is inexplicable but always recognizable.
Guy attended the School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League in New
York City where he studied with John Groth, Earl Mayhan and Mario Cooper. He has a B.A.
from C.W. Post College and an M.A. in Humanities from Hofstra University. After teaching
studio as well as academic art courses on the college level for twenty seven years he finally
retired to paint full time but not before he was awarded The New York State Chancelor's
Award for Excellence in Teaching.
His work can be found in the collections of General Electric, One Bank of
Syracuse, N.Y., M.B.N.A. America, and The United States Marine Corps Combat Art Collection in Washington among others.
He is a signature member of The Central New York Watercolor Society, Knickerbocker Artists and The American Watercolor Society.
